/u/CoatSecurity on Thoughts on Carlos Maza's recent actions, and do you defend/support Steven Crowder in his fight against this?

Just build it yourself until a smug progressive journalist writes a hit piece about your site and the credit cards demonitize you so you can't accept any payments other than bitcoin for allowing content that doesn't break any us laws but offends the morality of the corporate overlords. Assuming your web server isn't shut down or your domain name isn't booted off its provider long before that happens. Just build an entire internet conservatives, easy!

Something we need to consider in order to make Maza Coin a success.

I'm not here to bullshit anyone, I have a small financial stake in Maza, I would like to get a good return on my investment and its perfectly normal if all of you feel the same way. The catch is, we need to understand that that is not enough. The human and community element of a currency is its mostly valuable quality.
Dogecoin is a generically designed, blatantly silly currency and it is a beautiful thing. It has achieved a foot hold in the cryptocurrency market because it has a community that will advocate for it and believes it has a value that extends beyond how much it can be dumped for.
Maza is not based on a meme, it is based on a people, it is based on human welfare, it is based on the idea that innovation can be used to better the quality of our lives. What could possibly be more worthy of our support? Again, I'm not trying to bullshit anyone, its okay to be an investor, its okay to be a speculator, but somewhere along the way you need to ask yourself if you can also be a true believer because that is what will take us to the moon.

Definitely one of the best names we ran across this week! We're pretty big fans of Single Malt Scotch and a fine cigar to enjoy with it. Their Laphroaig Triple Wood 70cl / 48% Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling Prince Charles Royal Warrant looks like it would make the perfect evening with a few friends. North Wales Food and Drink Hub
ob://QmeYEm2gDog4DZLT9EZnYonjAgQ8G6fmoeJaUqP22Uvibw/store
What drove us to check out North Wales Food and Drink was all the talk on Twitter this week about Sarah's Coffee. We did a little research, and found out why everyone was talking about Sarah's Coffee.
https://preview.redd.it/2l2ki2gde8a11.png?width=601&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1d7fc1be5c24bc30831e4d21d79a0d3a5be3cf4
Sounds interesting, but why BitcoinCash? We dug a little deeper down and found another tweet from Mount Elgon Coffee:
https://preview.redd.it/ee6ejkjge8a11.png?width=752&format=png&auto=webp&s=01db54524450a0ec87784f614402b28d3a61969e
We don't know too much about Mount Elgon Coffee and Honey Cooperative, but we're definitely interested. Here at mazaclub we know what it takes to bring what so many of you call "mass adoption" of cryptocurrencies. It takes you having a cryptocurrency you can feel good about spending on your groceries and necessities, and that means the shops you buy form have to be able to source their goods in crypto. This is how it all starts. Cryptocurrencies help bridge the international payments gap (wires are expensive, and not for the many of us unbanked!), and Sarah's Coffee is showing us all how it's done.
So is North Wales Food and Drink Hub! They're a new shop (Blockbooth says their store is a month old) and jumped right in to help facilitate some coffee trade. We all know how important coffee is to bitcoiners, so this looks like the way to go! Sarah's wasn't ready to run an OB store just yet from what we can tell (it's still a challenge, we think!), and needed a partner to make trade happen right away. This is what we think OpenBazaar will open the doors to more and more as it's on more devices, and is more shopper, vendor, producer, and consumer friendly.
North Wales Food and Drink Hub offers 3 of Sarah's Coffees, and even offers Mount Elgon's raw coffee beans!

We've noticed CryptoNoir's cigars in the past, and we're almost feeling like we missed out. This week we all learned a bit about how to keep your node's wallet, identity, and store links safe, and how to back up our stores and keeping our listings and sales data secure, and we've got CryptoNoir to thank for it! They had a hard disk fail, and lost all their store data. This can be really discouraging, especially as an early adopter of challenging technology like OB.
Show this shop some of the OpenBazaar love, and stop on by while they're rebuilding their shop, and give them a follow! They've got a few of their cigar listings replaced when we went to press, and should have more up this week. We can't wait to see the whole new shop!

CPU Mining help

I know CPU mining isn't very useful, but I'd like do it for Mazacoin just to learn more like I do with Doge.
Is there a comprehensive walkthru for Windows or Linux for Mazacoin CPU mining?

Why I believe in Doge, and why you should too.

I've posted before that Dogecoin is heavily manipulated. People with hundreds of bitcoins are easily pushing the price of dogecoin up and down, left and right.
Well, it's plain to see that it's going down now, why?
My theory is a couple new coins that are coming onto the market, as well as the bitcoin market in general.
First lets look at AuroraCoin:
With that said, it's got a ton of hype... that's it.
Second, lets look at MazaCoin:
Once again... this leads to a high amount of hype... That's it.
So if these guys have this going for them, then why am I still with Doge while it's "sinking"?
Keep in mind, DogeCoin is only 3 months old. When I started coming to this subreddit, there was less than 10k subshibes here. I think it was somewhere around 7k.
In three months:
Last but by far not least; infact it's probably the most important. I've looked at my own wallet and I've seen transactions.
Transactions are the one thing that most crypto currencies simply can't seem to generate. How can you call yourself a currency if you don't have transactions beyond buy/selling for another currency?
That's why I believe in Doge, and why you should too.
tl;dr -> Doge has done amazing things in less than 100 days. More than what any other currency (minus bitcoin) has been able to do. Why switch?
edit: Dogecoin isn't sinking... i forgot doing air-quotes with my fingers can't be seen on reddit lol.

I built a bootstrap.dat for Mazacoin but it didn't seem to work..

I've created a bootstrap.dat file using some tutorials online. I used windows copy command and have used it successfully in other currencies. With Mazacoin though it seems to import only about 20mb of blocks from the 700mb bootstrap and than go back to downloading from the peers (with almost no progress made to begin with).
Did I miss something? With MazaCoin are the blk.dat files not enough?
I tried making a bootstrap of blk, rev, and than the index folder as well. None of it worked. It seems Mazacoin doesn't support bootstraps even though thats a core part of bitcoin.

Reasons for Crypto Adoption

Cryptos are gonna attract immense amounts of capital, and one consequence will be that the number of cryptos that prosper will be much greater than we thought even just weeks ago. But what might the specific reasons for adoption be? Well, that subject came up in discussion among us IndiaMikeZulu guys; and I found myself clumsily categorizing those reasons:
Hyperinflation (which I’ll class as ‘political’) Demonetization (political) Capital controls (political) War on Cash (political) Anti-Government sentiment (political) Remittance (economic) Crypto-as-payment-method (economic) Partnership-with-legacy-banking-system (economic) Special Bonus Category One: Eurozone disintegration (political) Special Bonus Category Two: increase in smartphone use (technological)
Hyper-inflation: the statistics seem a bit haphazard. However, Venezuela has 800% inflation; South Sudan’s rate is apparently over 400%; and Syria, Suriname, and Argentina are all over 40% -- which is definitely ‘on ramp’ to hyper-inflation. [http://www.tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate ]. South Sudan’s hyperinflation may not shake the world, but Argentina’s economy is around the sixtieth-largest in the world, and Argentina’s population is 43 million. Hyper-inflation is considered by CrazyPants.com journalists to be the ultimate economic problem, so this reason for adoption isn't going away anytime soon.
Demonetisation: http://www.visualcapitalist.com/global-war-cash/ Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, the U.S., Kenya, South Korea – the list is long and heavy duty. And India? One might almost think that the Indian government is secretly on our side!
Capital Controls/bail-ins (yes, the categories overlap): consider China, Cyprus, the Ukraine, and India. All have imposed capital controls, and in each case it boosted crypto adoption. Note: very few folks know just how many nations have already legislated for bail-ins. That is, the powers that be obviously intend to increase the use of capital controls.
War on Cash: governments are gonna herd people to a fork in the road. People will then either acquiesce, and go down the path of all-electronic-fiat; or they’ll refuse/resist. Some resisters will go to bullion – but there are limitations there. Others will go to cryptos. One thing is worth noting: many of those who do resist are libertarians; and if they do decide to adopt cryptos, they’ll do a good job of it.
Anti-Government Sentiment (yes, the categories overlap): The first ‘political cryptos’ – Freicoin, Maza Coin, even the ‘country coins’ – fared poorly because the citizens of Planet Krypto forget to connect them to the outside world; but that was then, this is now: http://www.coindesk.com/palestinian-government-bitcoin-currency/ The Eurozone isn’t the only entity set to disintegrate. The era of Ever-Larger-Bureaucracies is over, and it’s easy to see how dissident groups of many types might find cryptocurrencies attractive; and I was amazed at the number of these movements that exist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_active_separatist_movements Note again that such adopters will be highly motivated to use cryptos as currencies.
Remittance: ‘ . . . bitcoin powered remittances now account for 20% of the Asian remittance corridor between South Korea and the Philippines.’ https://bravenewcoin.com/news/bitcoin-remittances-20-percent-of-south-korea-philippines-corrido
Wikipedia lists 15 major remittance nations. The Philippines (with its 20%) is at Nos. 3. These guys -- https://www.javelinstrategy.com/coverage-area/bitcoin-and-global-remittance-market -- claim that the industry involves a half a Trillion bucks a year.* And what IMHO should equally interest us is the potential here for creating ‘trading loops’ in the countries that the cryptos are being sent back to. Thus, an Indonesian maid in Saudi could send crypto to her mum’s smartphone, and her mum can use that crypto to buy stuff right there in their village!
Crypto-as-just-another-payment-method (economic): this angle has been well considered. One thought, though: we all recognize the crazy range of nations’ regulations concerning crypto currencies. We all know that the recalcitrant nations will end up with egg on their faces – imagine that some nation had banned emails in 1980, and stuck with the ban! So, the more crypto-positive nations will soon be siphoning wealth out of the less crypto-positive nations, and us GRS guys wanna make sure that, somewhere somehow, some adoption project is based on GRS.
Partnership-with-legacy-banking-system (economic): if cryptos are in any way popularised by being adopted by the legacy banking-system – a la Ripple in Japan -- so be it. Practically all cryptos now have android wallets. They are better wallets than they were. More people have smartphones that can run those crypto wallets. More people know of and are prepared to use crypto currencies. More people are available to help others adopt via cryptos. Niiiiiice!

Using coinmarketcap to ballpark the industry

Hi all,
I see a lot of people worried about the price and asking if anything is happening specific to vertcoin or x-other-alt-coin, but in the last month or so most events that have happened have been industry specific and not particularly tied to Vert.
Seeing a single coin go up or down 10,20, X percent isn't completely helpful information in a vacuum so I'd like to share at least how I keep an eye on overall trends on a daily basis
Pre-requisite: go to coinmarketcap.com
For the most part, most stable coins stay in the same position for relative market cap, and sometimes jockey between another coin or two if it's close. For Vert specifically it tends to sit at 19/20 on market cap generally behind world or dark coin. This can be affected by 1-2 new cryptos joining and getting a huge bump or drop, so be on the lookout for why a change occurred if it did.
I like to see if other major players are shooting ahead when we may not be for some reason. I now sort by price descending and see if there's an explanation for some of the ones that have increased greatly. WOW! you may think, Bat Coin is up 1000%! Closer observation reveals that there was only 105$ in trade volume on one exchange, so no one is getting rich on that account.
So for this mornings analysis, the only people in the green with any reasonable market cap at the time of this writing were Primecoin (+.05%) and Auroracoin (+4%). Since I check this daily, I know Auroracoin dropped over 60% in value the last day or so, so I'm not really sad that I missed that 4% bump. Primecoin may just be showing some resistance but I don't know enough to speak to it personally.
Sort by %loss descending and see where Vert is out of the 100 or so listed items. Currently, out of the 60 or so coins that are in the negatives, we're 54 by % loss (1 being highest % loss of 54# for maza coin, 60 being ybcoin at .45% loss. Vert is sitting comfortable down 2%).
Mostly I just use this to see if Vert is ,generally, following a market trend or something specific to Vert. In addition to all of this I look to see what other alt coins are announcing, and if vert or bitcoin have been in the news at all. Many new coins being announced tends to have daytraders hop to them hoping for a quick buck, and yesterday specifically 200,000 coins controlled by Gox were being split into smaller and smaller denominations, so the market was thrown into upheaval yet again. We're also two days after a pretty huge bitcoin rally so there's the usual resistance as people expect a sell off and try to hedge a few losses. I also check to see if new payment vendors are being added and the community is still vibrant.
Hopefully this has been helpful, and gives you something to check when troll x or y is all "PRICE DOWN ALL WEEK" without zero context to the real world.

We need to raise the MazaCoin votes.

According to Cryptsy's twitter they will be selecting 2 coins on Friday Morning based on their new voting system. Every cryptsy account gets one free vote and every payment of 0.0002 bitcoin counts as one vote (thats 5000 votes per donated bitcoin). Mazacoin is currently in third place, but only by less than 4000 votes. Yes this is unfair, yes this is extortionary, but if we really believe in Maza Coin or if we just want to see a ROI, we need to advocate for it and we need to do so now.

BIP Draft: Multi-Currency Hierarchy For Use In Multisignature Deterministic Wallets | Kefkius | Apr 26 2016

Kefkius on Apr 26 2016:
I'm re-submitting this after a little under a year because, though it
generated little discussion, I feel it is still necessary.
The following can also be found at:
https://github.com/Kefkius/bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig/blob/masteREADME.md
BIP: bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig
Title: Multi-Currency Hierarchy For Use In Multisignature
Deterministic Wallets
Author: Tyler Willis
Status: Draft
Type: Standards Track

Abstract

This BIP defines a hierarchy based on BIP-0044 for deterministic wallets
intended to facilitate multi-currency, multisignature wallet management.
This BIP is an application of BIP-0043.

Motivation

The hierarchy defined in BIP-0044 places a coin's type level above the
level designating account number. This limits the possible
implementations of multi-currency, multisignature wallets. The hierarchy
defined here facilitates the creation of wallets intended to be both
multi-currency and multisignature.

Specification

Path Levels

m / purpose' / wallet' / coin_type / change / address_index

Purpose

Purpose is a constant tentatively set to
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig as there is no BIP number assigned to
this proposal. Hardened derivation is used here.

Wallet

This level is incremented for every wallet that one makes. Much like the
account node in BIP-0044, this is intended to organize independent
identities within the key space.
Basically, each index in this level represents a group of cosigners.
Hardened derivation is used here.

Coin Type

This is the BIP-0044 index of the coin being managed. Public derivation
is used here.
Public derivation is used so that cosigners need only know one of each
other's public keys, rather than needing to distribute public keys for
each coin.

Change

0 is used for public addresses and 1 is used for change addresses.
Identical to BIP-0044 behavior. Public derivation is used here.

Address Index

The address index. This increases sequentially as it does in BIP-0044.
Public derivation is used here.

Examples

| wallet | coin | change? | address | path |
|:-------|:----------|:--------|:--------|:-----------------------------|
| first | Bitcoin | no | first | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 0' / 0 / 0 / 0 |
| first | Bitcoin | no | second | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 0' / 0 / 0 / 1 |
| first | Testnet | no | first | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 0' / 1 / 0 / 0 |
| second | Bitcoin | no | first | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 1' / 0 / 0 / 0 |
| second | Bitcoin | yes | first | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 1' / 0 / 1 / 0 |
| third | Testnet | yes | sixth | m /
bip-kefkius-multicoin-multisig' / 2' / 1 / 1 / 5 |

Faucets? Tipbots?

Any of those in the works? Both would be great to drum up more interest.
And just an update, MazaCoin was just featured in an article on The Verge and Thinkprogress. Give it a couple weeks and Maza will be all over the national news. Give it a month and you'll see amazing returns on this great coin. I am proud to hold maza and I am a hundred percent sure that this coin will be a game-changer in the crypto world.
Calling it right now - 2014 is the year that cryptocurrencies go public. By 2015 there will hardly be anyone who hasn't heard of bitcoin. I've never been this excited about an investment.

Mazaclub Releases Encompass- Lightweight, Multi-Currency HD BIP-0044 Wallet! -Official Press Release-

Mazaclub Releases New Multi-Currency Wallet Software- Encompass 0.2.2
Thursday, February 5, 2015- Today, Mazaclub released Encompass, their new multi-currency wallet based on a port of the lightweight bitcoin client, Electrum. While the initial release supports Mazacoin, Bitcoin, & Litecoin, mazaclub has provided the means for developers to implement new coins immediately. Encompass is an aggregation point for altcoin and bitcoin electrum forks - through the use of "ChainKey Modules,” Encompass allows existing electrum code and servers to be quickly added - by any developer. Properly implemented modules sent to mazaclub in Pull Requests on github will be included in future release distributions. Encompass is HD BIP-0044 compatible, and uses a single deterministic seed to secure the private keys for an unlimited number of currencies- including currencies not yet implemented. All currencies added to the wallet in the future will see keys derived from the original seed. Encompass is currently available for Windows and Linux, and should work on any system with Python installed. Download Encompass 0.2.2 from github here: https://github.com/mazaclub/encompass/releases/latest
Encompass’ primary author, Tyler Willis (Kefkius), explains Encompass: “It works by using a master key; new currencies can be added at any point in the future. As long as you have that master key, you control your wallets for every currency, and every currency that will ever be added. With an existing Electrum port for a coin, you can have a Chainkey module that can be used to easily add that coin to Encompass. A Chainkey module is just a small portion of Electrums forked code. Encompass is fully BIP-0044 compatible. All key derivation follows the HD model described in BIP-0044. Electrum’s wallet structure is already very thoughtful, which made it easy to implement multi-coin HD BIP-0044 key derivation in Encompass.”
Rob Nelson (guruvan), mazaclub founder and Project coordinator of the Mazacoin Development Team said “Encompass is a first step in mazaclub’s journey to interconnect blockchains that serve distinct purposes. As we develop more applications that use multiple blockchains to achieve a single goal, we need simple tools to work with them. With Encompass, developers have the opportunity to incorporate not only more blockchains, but specialized plugin apps, or even applications that use Encompass as backend wallet server, replacing many functions of heavyweight coind applications.”
